My wife and I first visit. Fantastic! We were in the area 2 days and both days we did breakfast at Ruby's. Homemade sauces, real refried beans, chorizo, etc...... Very friendly with great service! Real Mexican not the American/Mexican stuff. We wish they had a restraint in Iowa City
I had the opportunity to finally try this place after passing it every day on my way home from work, and I must say I shouldn't have waited so long to do so. 1st, it gives you old diner vibes with the big opening that you can see through to the kitchen, and the waitress gives the cook the order slip directly. The actual restaurant is smaller than it looks from the outside. However, when I went, I was one of two occupants. The service was great, and my waitress catered to my every need. I tried the Denver omelet with hashbrowns and pancakes, and yes those were options that came with the Denver omelet, and I tried the steak and egg burrito. The pancakes were fluffy, and didn't disintegrate when the syrup was applied. They soaked up just the right amount of syrup, and held together when picking up with the fork. The last thing you want is your pancakes falling apart. The hashbrowns had the right crunch to soft ratio I like myself. The omelet is my go to breakfast at any establishment, and this kept in the consistency I like, however, I will ask for extra cheese the next time, as i like my omelet a with extra cheese. But for me, this trips star of the show was that massive steak and egg burrito. It comes with tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, and beans, but I added cilantro and onions as well. The burrito was huge, and stuffed with everything stated. There was not one bite that didn't have everything in it. The outside picture does the inside no justice, cause the cross cut shows just how stuffed this burrito was. I'm definitely going to try more options.
Great food and very friendly staff! We will be back!
The food was incredible, great price, generous portions. The service was great. Ruby came to our table to check on everything. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. We will be back.
Absolutely the best breakfast in the area! You would pass it up looking on the outside but the service and food is phenomenal
